As the game states, this raid is meant for a team of 4 “50+ level” players. There are 3 difficulties: 

Novice – No overall time limit, can be soloed, the only fail condition is if you or the entire team dies

Standard – Has a reasonable time limit, can also be soloed, but I would recommend at least a team of 3 with general knowledge of layout and objectives/mechanics

Expert – A much shorter time limit, requires a full team of 4 with extensive knowledge of objectives/mechanics and map layout (Excellent team coordination is necessary to succeed because of the extremely short time limit in each section)

Enemies you will encounter in this raid include:

  • Mirelurks, Mirelurk Hunters, Kings and Queens
  • Ghouls including level 95 glowing ghouls

What you will need for this raid (choices dependent on the overall builds of your team):

  • Obviously the weapons/ability to take on a massive number of Mirelurk and Ghoul type enemies, although mob killing is not the priority of this raid, your own survivability and that of your team is key
  • At least 1 player in or bringing Power Armor, I feel it’s necessary for the last section, as you’ll be facing the Strangler Heart with its high damage/radiation inflicting spray in close quarters
  • RadAway/anti-radiation healing items, as you’ll be taking radiation in the Engineering section if not from the ghouls
  • Optionally at least 1 player sharing Aquaboy/Aquagirl. There aren’t many sections of the vault where you’ll be in water (the first and last sections mostly but it does help prevent radiation). Exterminator PER perk or gear is also useful.

Last but not least is simply knowledge of what to do in the raid, what the objectives are, a general idea of where rooms are in each section (you don’t need to remember the entire map, just enough to get by), and overall mechanics of the Engineering section which will be explained in this guide. Practice the raid on Novice, whether solo or with a team. Novice has no time limit so take as much time as you need until you feel confident. There are no changes from any of the 3 difficulties beyond the time limit. 

There is a theme of repairing pipes throughout the vault. Repairing a pipe gives you 5 seconds added to the timer for every pipe repaired. You can continue repairing more pipes even after the objective bar is complete and gone and should make a habit of doing so in every section.

Upon entering the Vault 94 cave, there is a stash box and a terminal to open the vault door. Use the terminal, take anything you need from your stash and proceed inside. You’ll arrive at the terminal to select the difficulty and to start the raid proper. Ensure your team is ready and wait for the announcement to finish and the door to open.

Section 1 – Atrium (Standard 4min)

Run through a few more doors, encounter your first ghouls, press the button beside the blue door to open it and enter the Atrium. Ugh.. MIRELURK QUEENS! They are there to intimidate you, instil fear and be an overall nuisance. They are not your main priority so kill them, ignore them, it doesn’t matter, just shoot anything in your way and more importantly time’s a wastin so circle the perimeter, go up the stairs to the higher level and more rooms and repair pipes.

Upon repairing enough pipes to fulfill the objective, wait for the next announcement, the “Draining” to complete and in case you didn’t notice, the blaring blue door on the other side of the Atrium which opens to the Residential section.

Section 2 – Residential (Standard +5min)

Repair pipes and find a series of keys

Locate the Maintenance Engineer’s Room

Find the Maintenance Engineer’s ID Card

Acquire the Pump Reset Codes

Have 1 player designated to complete the objective, everyone else should be repairing pipes and clearing mobs.

Only 4 rooms are relevant in this area: Maintenance Engineer’s room, Nursery, Workroom, Community Council room

You can skip finding the 1st key by identifying which room (Nursery, Workroom or Community Council) has a level 3 lock (Workroom or Council room) and picking that lock, in this room will be the key to another of the 3 rooms. Otherwise the key can also be found randomly somewhere in the section.

Once all the keys are found in the subsequent rooms and the doors opened, you will find the red ID Card in the last unlocked room.

Proceed downstairs to the Engineer’s room, swipe the card and either hack(level 2) or find the password to the terminal within the room. Use the terminal [Maintenance Logs] > [Maintenance Codes] > [Print Codes] and the codes will be automatically put in Notes “Vault 94 Pump Restart Codes” for the entire team. These codes are randomly generated and will be used in the last section, screenshot them/save them somewhere.

A new wave of mobs will spawn upon acquiring the codes. Proceed through the next door.

BREAK TIME/INTERMISSION

At this point, the timer will be paused and you’ll be in a room with armor, weapons, chemistry, tinker’s benches and a power armor station. Check your gear, do any repairs, grab any food or drink, take care of RL stuff. Don’t forget to grab any rewards in this steamer trunk beside the tinker’s bench. This is a good time to screenshot or save the pump codes somewhere.

Confirm that your team is ready, press the button by the door and proceed through to the most complex section of this raid.

Section 3 – Engineering

Restart the Reactors

Restarting the reactors is a 6-step process that seems complex and confusing. It’s really just 5 mini objectives and the last step will always be pressing the Emergency Restart Button. A lot of it is just planning ahead and you can do this solo with a degree of difficulty.

If you can do this solo, why do you need 3 other players? Because the rest of you need to help find the key items while also repairing the pipes. These key items are:

  • Reactor Control Cards (find at least 1)
  • Reactor Interlock Keys (there are 4 in total)
  • Reactor Catalyst Canisters (only 2 are required)
  • Mainframe Cores (these are optional, pick them up anyways)

These items spawn in random locations. Communicate with your team if you do find and pick up these items.

The only other mini objective you can speed up is flipping all the breaker switches to the DOWN position.

Do you really need ALL those items? No, the 5 steps of the 6-step process is random, but finding them in between repairing pipes and killing mobs will speed up the process.

If you fail any of these steps, the key items may disappear from your inventory and respawn in new random locations and you’ll have to find them again. (The interlock keys may bug and not respawn)

Let’s go through all the possible steps:

Circuit Breakers (4 Numbers) – The announcer will announce 4 numbers, ONLY these 4 circuit breaker numbers should be switched to the UP position

The panels are on both sides of the upper floor, numbered sequentially (Reactor Control and Reactor Monitoring)

Reactor Interlock Control Keys go in these 4 slots (2 slots per reactor)

Hand Scanners – There are 6, 2 at the Reactor Control side, 2 at Reactor Monitoring, and 2 in between the two reactors

Control Cards – Swipe the card at 4 readers, 2 at Reactor Control, 2 in between the reactors

Mainframe Cores – Replace the damaged mainframe cores, if you don’t have enough, they can be repaired at the tinker’s bench in the Mainframe room on the upper floor

Valves – Turn all the valves on the lower floor, they may or may not be marked on your compass, refer to the map

Reactor Codes – Activate the printer at Reactor Monitoring, enter the retrieved codes into 2 keypads (1 on each reactor)

Restart the Reactor Subsystems – The Reactor Monitoring terminal will display a series of steps.

Look at the map, go to the 1st room, press a button, go to 2nd room, press a button etc. until you finish, that’s it. Ideally have 1 player do the button pressing to prevent confusion.

Lastly, simply press the Emergency Restart button and you have finished the Engineering section!

Section 4 – Utility and Agriculture Wings

Repair Pipes

Restart the Flood Control Pumps (4)

Welcome to the last section, it’s very simple, I hope you still have those pump restart codes on hand. Reach the last room and have 2 players enter these codes into the keypads in each pump room, the other 2 players should #RepairPipes.

Clear out the mobs in the room, more will spawn, it’ll be fine. Once all codes have been entered, your priority is survival and unloading on the Strangler Heart.

The Strangler Heart will close (after taking enough damage or time passing?), 1 player simply has to run close enough for it to open again (practically being in front of it). Continue focus firing. 

Once it’s dead, you’re not quite done yet.

The timer is still running so press the button to open the Pump Control station door, get to the terminal

and now you’re ACTUALLY finished the raid.
