This El Chronicle guide is about how to get competitive as quickly as possible to reach El Chronicle’s high level content by optimising usage of F2P resources, rather than spending real money. In the early-to-mid game, that means picking a DPS hero, building a core 5-man team around him/her and prioritising upgrades.

El Chronicle starts as a story-driven Japanese-style RPG, but eventually becomes about resource management to build a team of heroes.

In order to speed up acquiring the top-tier equipment needed to build your team without spending excessive amounts of real money, you need Champion Talismans (or lots of patience waiting for CraveMob to hand out freebies). As of Patch 1.7.4, there are 3 sources of this:

  • Individual Ranking in the top 12% or better on your server for Colosseum
  • Individual Ranking in the top 12% or better on your server for Infinite Fortress
  • Guild Ranking in the top 25% (or top 10) on your server for Guild War

In practice, that means deciding on your Main DPS hero, building a core 5-man team around him/her, and prioritising who and what to upgrade. The objective is to progress quickly through PVE content to speed up resource acquisition for hero upgrades.

Much of the ideas, fact finding and hard work was done by other gamers. I just read their posts and picked their brains off Discord. Any erroneous opinions and data are mine.

El Chronicle Guide For F2P Beginners - Tier Lists, Tips, & Tricks 1

Table of Contents

Long-Term Resource Constraints

Save up Summon Tickets and Crystals to do 10+Bonus Summon Shop Gacha pulls. This maximises your chance of getting T6 Weapons & Set Armor as well as T4 Accessories. All of these can be upgraded into max tier gear.

Your Budget & Server Choice

Unless you’re a mega-whale, your choice of game server probably matters more than anything else. A high number and proportion of players on the Asia, Korea and Japan servers are willing to spend money. So consider playing on the US-East, US-West or EU servers instead. It’s much easier to get into the top 12% on a server with more F2P players.

Obtaining T6 Equipment

Your main long-term constraint to upgrading your heroes will be your ability to obtain top-tier equipment:

  • T6 Exclusive Weapons
  • T6 Normal Weapons
  • T6 Set Armor

T6 Equipment is only available via:

  • Summon Shop Gacha (using Summon Tickets / Crystals)
  • Champion Store Gacha (using Champion Talismans from top placements in  Colosseum, IF & Guild War)
  • Event/Login Bonuses (approx. one every 1-2 months)

So at the start, your main source of T6 Equipment will be saving up Summon Tickets and Crystals to do 10+Bonus Summon Shop Gacha pulls. T6 Equipment has a 5% drop rate, so it’s a 43.1% chance of getting at least one T6 Equipment with a 10+Bonus pull, or 40.1% if you do 10 single pulls. So save up for the 10+Bonus pulls.

Nonetheless, 43.1% means that on average, you shouldn’t expect more than one T6 Equipment for every three 10+Bonus pulls. That said, horror stories of six or seven 10+Bonus pulls in a row with no T6 Equipment are commonplace on the Discord channel.

Summon Shop Gacha pulls also sometimes give T4 Normal Weapons & Accessories that have an extra bonus for one of your 4 selected heroes. This is much cheaper than crafting them, and means that you can save your Gold for other upgrades.

Obtaining Free Crystals

At the start of the game, you’ll get lots of free Crystals. I strongly suggest using all of these on 10+Bonus pulls. Eventually, this slows down to 150 Crystals from daily quests and 1,500 every 28 days… which means only one 10+Bonus pull every 2 weeks or so. You can get up to 90 more Crystals daily from Alchemy, but you lose out on other resources needed to upgrade heroes.

Notable Sources of free Crystals include:

  • Completing all Daily Quests for 150 Crystals
  • Week 2 Day 7 Login Bonus for 1,500 Crystals
  • Completing Achievements
  • Completing the Main Story
  • Getting an “SS” Rating on Story Chapters
  • Completing Side Quests (only available from Odelle Forest to Crimson Temple)
  • Completing Hero Side Stories
  • Finding Hidden Chests (only available in some zones — see next section for maps)

I got about 15,000 Crystals in the first 2 weeks from these sources, which translates to six 10+Bonus pulls, or an average of two pieces of T6 Equipment. If you get more, good for you. If you get fewer, you might consider rerolling, i.e. starting a new account.

That said, the main storyline is designed to be completed by maxing out your T4/T5 gear (i.e. without any T6/T7 gear), and you’ll get some free T6 gear from CraveMob along the way. So whatever happens, go ahead and enjoy the game.

Using Real Money for Crystals

If you want to throw real money at CraveMob, the best value is the Daily 30 Crystal package (2,000 Crystals upfront and 100 Crystals daily for 30 days for slightly under US$10)… if you can wait 30 days.

Otherwise, it’s the one-time Beginner Adventurer Growth Crystal Package (12,000 Crystals for slightly under US$30). That said, 12,000 Crystals translates to a bit less than five 10+Bonus pulls once you clear the Crimson Temple zone… so count yourself lucky if you get two or more T6 Equipment from it. Getting the full benefits from the Experienced and Elite Adventurer Packages may require more story progression than you have right now. So read the fine print on when Crystals are awarded carefully before you buy anything.

Hidden Chest Maps

There are 6 Hidden Chests per map in the following zones. You’ll find 3x 30 Crystals, 1x 60 Crystals, 1x 90 Crystals and 1x 150 Crystals — for a total of 390 Crystals per zone.

Short-Term Resource Constraints

Gold

You’ll run out of Gold almost every day. Get used to it, and go farm more tomorrow.

Unless you intend to continually spend lots of real money to power up your heroes, your main short-term constraint will be Gold, i.e. you won’t have enough Gold for every possible upgrade.

Obtaining Free Gold

You’ll develop a daily routine to farm Gold (and other resources). Activities include:

  • 2x Free Ad Gold (click on the “+” next to your Gold; available on some servers only)
  • 5x Honor Shop Gold
  • 3x Challenge Missions (Carriage Escort, Hero Battle, Base Defence, Subjugation)
  • 3x Challenge Blitz (Tyrant, Ill Omen)
  • World Boss
  • Completing Achievements
  • Completing Hero Side Stories
  • Login Bonuses

I personally like ensure that my Energy is almost never stays at maximum, so that it keeps refilling (24 hours = 288 Energy). If I consume that 288 Energy to Auto Battle Castle Caman Chapter 3 or 4 (with Lulu’s Support active), it yields an extra 480k Gold daily for upgrading heroes. At the same time, I’m also farming Vine or Tearbloom (you need 9k per hero for W2 & W3), and T1/T2 gear as fodder for upgrading my T6/T7. Every little bit helps. (If you’re not there yet, use the furthest story stage instead for excess Energy. The two new areas in Season 3 give the same rewards as Castle Caman.)

I do NOT recommend buying Gold with Crystals. There are many sources of free Gold and many of them can be repeated daily. There are much fewer sources of free Crystals.

Using Real Money for Gold

If you want to throw real money at CraveMob, the best value is the one-time Beginner Adventurer Growth Gold Package (40 million Gold for slightly under US$30). That said, Gold runs out FAST. You’ll need about 35 million Gold just to raise one hero from 1* to W3 and max out all his/her Skills and Traits. And that’s not counting any upgrades to Equipment or Runes. A full set of T7 gear with T5 in all other slots will cost another 83 million Gold.

Your First 5-Man Team

Classes, Sub-Classes & Roles

When selecting heroes for your 5-man team, it’s useful to think in terms of what role they will fill. Classes & sub-classes are still important… but as resource constraints.

Heroes are divided into 4 classes — Warrior, Assassin, Specialist and Supporter — and 7 sub-classes — Defensive Tanker, Offensive Tanker, Defensive Support, Offensive Support, Melee Dealer, Ranged Dealer and Hybrid Dealer.

Some sub-classes map cleanly to the same class:

  • All Defensive Tankers are Warriors
  • All Melee, Ranged & Hybrid Dealers are Assassins

However, several sub-classes don’t always map to the same class:

  • Most Offensive Tankers are Warriors, but Iri is a Specialist
  • Most Defensive Supports are Supporters, but Yeonhwa is a Specialist
  • Most Offensive Supports are Specialists, but Claire and HwangBopae are Supporters

Furthermore, even within the same class or sub-class, heroes cannot always fill the same role. It’s more useful to build a 5-man team along these lines instead:

RoleRemarks
TankTake damage from enemies to prevent other party members from being hurt. Ideally a Defensive Tanker, since there’s a dedicated gacha slot for them. Offensive Tankers generally need more upgrades to fill this role effectively.
Main DPSKill enemies quickly. Ideally a Melee Dealer, Ranged Dealer or Hybrid Dealer, since there’s a dedicated gacha slot for them.
Utility DPSKill enemies while providing buffs, debuffs, CC (crowd control skills) and/or minions. Ideally an Offensive Tanker or Offensive Support, since there’s a dedicated gacha slot between them.
HealerHeal the party. You only have two choices — Dice & LeeJiyeon. A rough guideline is that Dice is better for melee teams whereas LeeJiyeon does better with ranged teams.
BufferProvide buffs for the party. You have three choices — Aaren, YeryungSuhwa & Yeonhwa. A rough guideline is that Aaren buffs magic attackers, YeryungSuhwa buffs physical attackers, whereas Yeonhwa buffs defence.

Class Constraints: Evolution & Awakening Materials

To ensure minimal overlap in the class-specific resources, an optimal 5-man team is probably 1 Warrior, 1 Assassin, 1 or 2 Specialists & 1 or 2 Supporters.

Out of the 4 hero classes — Warrior, Assassin, Specialist and Supporter — there is some overlap in usage of Low & Medium Evolution Materials. However, each class uses unique High & Superior Evolution Materials as well as Low & Medium Awakening Crests.

Evolution MaterialWarriorAssassinSpecialistSupporter
LowVineTearbloomVineTearbloom
Medium 1White PearlAntlerCryoliteCryolite
Medium 2AntlerWhite PearlAntlerWhite Pearl

SuperiorCourage CrystalShadow MirrorTime SandNature’s Gift
Awakening CrestWarriorAssassinSpecialistSupporter
LowLow Warrior CrestLow Assassin CrestLow Specialist CrestLow Supporter Crest
MediumMedium Warrior CrestMedium Assassin CrestMedium Specialist CrestMedium Supporter Crest

What this means is that if your team has 2 Warriors, 1 Assassin, 1 Specialist & 1 Supporter, your Warriors will eventually lag behind in terms of Hero Evolution & Awakening, as they need to share resources. Or one Warrior will be able to keep up with the rest of your team while the other only gets leftovers and scraps.

Again, the question becomes — which heroes can still pull some weight in your team without a significant investment of resources? Those heroes are generally your Specialists and Supporters, who provide healing, buffs, debuffs and crowd control (CC).

Hence, in order to make optimal use of Evolution & Awakening resources, an optimal 5-man team will probably look like this:

  • 1 Warrior
  • 1 Assassin
  • 1 or 2 Specialists
  • 1 or 2 Supporters

Sub-Class Constraints: Gacha Hero Option Selector

To make full use of the gacha selector slots, the optimal 5-man team is 1 Defensive Tanker, 1 Melee/Ranged/Hybrid Dealer, 1 Offensive Tanker/Support & 2 Defensive Supports.

There are 7 hero sub-classes — Defensive Tanker, Offensive Tanker, Defensive Support, Offensive Support, Melee Dealer, Ranged Dealer and Hybrid Dealer — but only 4 hero slots in the Summon Shop Gacha. Furthermore, each of those 4 hero slots must come from a specific sub-class combinations. Specifically, you are limited to:

  • Choose 1 Defensive Tanker
  • Choose 1 Defensive Support
  • Choose 1 Offensive Tanker or Offensive Support
  • Choose 1 Melee Dealer, Ranged Dealer or Hybrid Dealer

What this means is that you won’t be able to build an Offensive Tanker and an Offensive Support at the same time. Or two Melee Dealers at the same time.

Furthermore, you only have 4 gacha selector slots, but a 5-man team.

So the question becomes — which heroes can still pull some weight in your team without good gear? Those heroes are generally your Defensive Supports, who provide healing and buffs. So we double up on those.

Finally, most Offensive Tankers (except Iri) are Warriors. That means that choosing one as part of your core 5-man team will hinder developing your Defensive Tanker. (This isn’t optimal for the current PVP meta, which favours Offensive Tankers, but I don’t see a way to build them up quickly on limited resources.)

Hence, in order to make full use of gacha selector slots, the optimal 5-man team will probably look like this:

  • 1 Defensive Tanker
  • 1 Melee Dealer, Ranged Dealer or Hybrid Dealer
  • 1 Offensive Support (or Iri)
  • 2 Defensive Supports

Notes on Class & Sub-Class Constraints

There’s nothing wrong with ignoring the above constraints. But it’ll probably be sub-optimal for your progression and hence resource acquisition. That said, El Chronicle is a F2P mobile game. Which means real money can help smooth over any resource constraints that you may face in upgrading your desired team.

Putting It All Together

Here are some guidelines and sample teams. But go ahead and build your own.

#1 Choose your Main DPS

One key objective in selecting your 5-man team should be synergy. In order to push story progression and climb Colosseum/IF in an optimal fashion, all 5 heroes need to work together. In practice, this means building your team around your Main DPS.

At this point, there’s no single hero or heroes that are clearly “overpowered” compared to others — what matters more is whether you like them enough to build them into a powerhouse. Nonetheless, aside from how a hero looks, some things to consider are:

  • If you’re going 100% F2P, you get free Hero Pieces for JaegalWoon and Gwen as part of the story progression achievements
  • Melee Dealers like JaegalWoon tend to die frequently, as they often need to run a longer distance to get away from boss attacks (eventually, W1 Passive “Will” stops them from getting one-shotted)
  • Ranged and Hybrid Dealers are generally better at staying alive during Auto-Battle
  • Lily and Isha both have a stealth ability, which provides more survivability in the Colosseum
 Physical ATKMagic ATK
Melee/Hybrid DealerJaegalWoonLilyVariaMaSeolinWolyung
Ranged DealerGwenIshaJadeJulia

#2 Match your Main DPS with an appropriate Healer

Dice uses long-range heals, does better with Melee and Hybrid Dealers who tend to run all over to kill enemies.

LeeJiyeon uses short-range heals, and does better with Ranged Dealers who tend to stay still. If you’re going 100% F2P, you get free Hero Pieces for LeeJiyeon as part of the story progression achievements.

#3 Pick a Tank (Defensive Tanker)

All the Defensive Tankers are viable choices (especially since there’s a dedicated gacha slot). Some players struggle when using an Offensive Tanker (in place of a Defensive Tanker) in top level PVE content, while others have no problem. Here are some factors to help you choose:

  • If you’re going 100% F2P, you get free Hero Pieces for Dean as part of the story progression achievements
  • Richard is very popular for PVE progression, due to his team buffs and CC
  • Markon offers synergy with melee-heavy teams, and with Aaren for Magic ATK teams
 Physical ATKMagic ATK
Defensive TankerDeanJangoPaengGeumboReinhardtRichardMarkonMubu

#4 Pick a Utility DPS

There are quite a few choices here. Some factors to consider:

  • All Offensive Tankers (except Iri) share resources with your Defensive Tanker
  • Offensive Supports bring buffs, debuffs and/or CC to table
  • If you’re going 100% F2P, you get free Hero Pieces for Claire, Gwen, Kael and Maeho as part of the story progression achievements
  • Iri and JaegalMageon summon a tanky minion, which helps take some of the heat off your heroes
  • Aqua and Maeho summon a few small minions, which help take some of the heat off your heroes and contributes to DPS (though their damage is mediocre until you’ve invested enough resources in Aqua or Maeho)
 Physical ATKMagic ATK
Offensive TankerAhkChungwangGraceKaelBaekLicheonIreneIri
Offensive SupportAquaClaireHwangBopaeJaegalMageonMaehoOccasioScarlett

#5 Pick a Buffer

Your team DPS will depend largely on your Main DPS, Utility DPS and Tank.

YeryungSuhwa provides more of a boost to Physical ATK-based heroes.

Aaren provides more of a boost to Magic ATK-based heroes. And if you’re going 100% F2P, you get free Hero Pieces for Aaren as part of the story progression achievements

However, if they’re mixed or you just prefer to emphasise defence, Yeonhwa is a good fit.

Top Colosseum Teams

Another way to build your team is to copy a top player. That said, the majority of them are long-time players who likely have put some real money into the game. They may also be in the process of changing their team.

Note that the current PVP meta is heavily tilted towards offence, and favours using two of the same type of character, e.g. 2 Offensive Tankers, 2 Ranged DPS, etc. However, such teams are NOT viable for new players unless you’re willing to throw significant real money at CraveMob. Also, you can do well in Colosseum without a healer (often by using 2 buffers instead), but it’s a really bad idea for PVE content.

Out of the Top 10 US-East Colosseum teams below (updated as at 11 August 2018), only #6, #8 and #9 are something that new players might consider copying.

WHO to Upgrade FIRST

Unless your Tank and Healer keep dying in 2 or 3 hits, concentrate most of your upgrades on your main DPS (or Utility DPS) hero, rather than the rest of your 5-man team.

Combat Power (CP) can be used to measure how much Gold and other resources you’ve invested in a hero. But it doesn’t scale linearly. A single 200k CP hero will wipe the floor with a team of five 80k CP heroes without breaking a sweat. So it’s optimal to pour most of your resources (especially Gold) into one hero, and upgrade the rest of your team with the leftovers. In addition, different types of heroes use different resources, so ideally that hero won’t need to share most of their resources with the rest of your team.

Ideally, most of your resources should go to your Main DPS hero, i.e. Melee, Ranged or Hybrid Dealer. Even at the same CP level, they will likely outdamage everyone else in your team. Raising his/her CP is probably the fastest route for progression and breaking into the top 12% for Colosseum and IF.

Otherwise, the resources should go to your Utility DPS hero, i.e. Offensive Tanker or Support, because you still need someone to kill enemies quickly. (A really good reason to focus on your Utility DPS rather than your Main DPS is getting his/her T6 EW.) That said, at low CP levels, your Utility DPS is still useful for his/her buffs, debuffs, CC and/or minions. But at low CP levels, your Main DPS is deadweight.

You can’t neglect your Tank and Healer entirely for progression, but they can usually afford to lag behind somewhat. Your Utility DPS and Buffer can come last. Only after you’ve hit a limit on upgrading your Main DPS, then it’s time to start upgrading your Utility DPS.

As a rough guideline, my main 5-man team at different CP levels looked like this:

RoleTeam 200k CPTeam 400k CPTeam 500k CPTeam 600k CP
Tank50k CP80k CP95k CP105k CP

WHAT to Upgrade FIRST

Your first priority is getting 6* +8 and max Skills for everyone in your 5-man team. This is (relatively) cheap and goes a long way towards story progression. Then work on getting gear to T4 Lv.21 and everyone to W1.

Hero Upgrades & Evolution. In the early-to-mid story (e.g. from Odelle Forest up to Entry to Kriveshan), hero upgrades and evolution will provide your biggest power boost. It’s helpful to get the initial heroes (i.e. Dean, JaegalWoon & Claire) up to 3* or 4* for smoother story progression, and switch them out as soon as you recruit the heroes that you really want to build. After that, slowly work towards 6* +8 for every member of your 5-man team.

Skills. It’s critical to set aside Gold to improve your Skills as your team levels up. In particular, healing and buffs are percentage-based, and the percentage increases with Skill Level. Neglecting Skills will mean that you’re carrying deadweight on your team. This is the one area that you should never skimp on for your Utility DPS, Healer and Buffer.

Gear. When starting out, you’ll get T1, T2 & T3 gear. Just equip it if it’s an upgrade, but ignore it otherwise. You’ll get eventually quite a bit of T4 gear as part of the story progression and from 10+Bonus gacha pulls. Unless you already have another piece of T4 gear in that slot already, it’s probably worth equipping and getting to Lv.21. A few Normal Weapons and Accessories unlock additional stats at Lv.26 and Lv.31… these are generally worth upgrading to those levels.

What happens when you get T6 gear? T6 weapons are a no brainer. Get them to Lv.21 as soon as possible. T6 Set Armor is a bit more complicated, especially if you lose the 3pc T4 Set Armor. But as a rule of thumb, if you have 3pc T4 Set Armor at Lv.21 equipped and draw a piece of T6 Set Armor, the T6 Set Armor Helm or Chest will always be an upgrade at Lv.21 or higher, whereas the T6 Set Armor Shield/Shoes at Lv.21 will more or less offset the T4 3pc Set Bonus (i.e. they’re roughly equivalent and it’s a matter of what stats you prefer).

Hero Awakening. You’ll accumulate enough resources for W1 sometime in the mid story (my first W1 was during Entry to Kriveshan). The W1 Active and Passive Skills provide a huge boost to your characters that isn’t fully reflected in the CP jump. In particular:

  • Your Tank gets a massive boost to survivability from W1 Active Skill “Blessing”
  • Everyone else gets a massive boost to survivability from W1 Active Skill “Will”

I emphasise survivability for one big reason — if you’re pushing story progression and have invested heavily in your Main DPS, then the rest of your team will likely be undergeared for the content they’re facing. If you Tank dies, the rest of your team dies. And the only way that your Utility DPS, Healer and Buffer can keep providing their heals, buffs, debuffs and CC is if they stay alive.

WHAT to Upgrade NEXT

Next, focus on your Main DPS or Utility DPS (pick one) — max out your Weapons and Set Armor (if T6/T7 available), before working on other gear. Slowly farm W2/W3 and Traits along the way.

Heroes max out somewhere above 250k CP. The exact numbers vary by hero (and solid data on this is grossly lacking), but the breakdown is approximately:

TypeContribution
Awakening @ W325k CP
Hero Level @ Lv.806.5k CP
All Skills @ Lv.605k CP
All Traits @ Lv.309k CP
T7 Exclusive Weapon @ Lv.70 SS +345k to 50k CP
T7 Normal Weapon @ Lv.70 SS +345k to 50k CP
T7 Set Armor Helm @ Lv.70 SS +316k CP
T7 Set Armor Chest @ Lv.70 SS +320k CP
T7 Set Armor Shield/Shoes @ Lv.70 SS +312k CP
T7 Set Armor 2pc Bonus5k to 8.5k CP
T7 Set Armor 3pc Bonus5k to 8.5k CP
T5 Normal Accessory @ Lv.50 SS  +320k CP
T5 Treasure Accessory @ Lv.50 SS +37.5k CP
T4 Talisman Accessory @ Lv.40 SS +36k CP
T5 Ancient & 3pc Magic Runes @ Lv.50 SS +320k CP
Gourmet Lv.105k to 10k CP
TOTAL252k to 274k CP

The numbers above are very rough estimates, but it’s clear that the T6/T7 Weapons and Set Armor Chest are the biggest contributors. Completing a 3pc Armor Set is another big boost. But note that when viewing your character sheet, the CP Set Bonus is included in the CP value of each set armor piece equipped.

WHAT to Upgrade LAST

Gourmet Levels and Gear Options/Transcension/Potential are heavily RNG based and require a lot of Crystals. Most of this isn’t feasible for F2P players (except maybe getting  Magic Runes to SS +3), unless you intend to keep playing for a long, long time.

So you’ve got a full set of T7 Lv.70 gear and T5 Lv.50 in all the other slots. What’s left?

Gourmet Levels. You cook up meals for your hero using Gold and other resources. Eating meals successfully boosts their All ATK, Physical DEF or Magic DEF.

The meal types are different for each hero, but as a rule:

  • One meal type will boost All ATK
  • One meal type will boost Physical DEF
  • One meal type will boost Magic DEF

Note also that the Gourmet stat caps are different for each hero sub-class. Defensive Tankers and Supports get more Physical DEF and Magic DEF, whereas Dealers get more All ATK.

El Chronicle Guide For F2P Beginners - Tier Lists, Tips, & Tricks 16

After every 10 meals, your hero’s Satiation hits 100, and you need to use a Super Digest-Aid costing 150 Crystals.

El Chronicle Guide For F2P Beginners - Tier Lists, Tips, & Tricks 17

Upon hitting the caps for All ATK, Physical DEF and Magic DEF, you go up by one Gourmet Level, and your success rate drops. This is maxes out at Gourmet Lv.10, and is worth somewhere between 5k to 10k CP. For this, you will need about 260 to 280 meals (i.e. 5.2M to 5.6M Gold) and 26 to 28 Super Digest-Aid (i.e. 3.9k to 4.2k Crystals).

El Chronicle Guide For F2P Beginners - Tier Lists, Tips, & Tricks 18

Gear Option Modification. Some of the stats on your gear are random (“options”). You can reroll these options using a Crest of Modification. Crests of Modification can be purchased at 500 Crystals each or directly using real money from the cash shop. Note that the new stat is always “C” or “D” grade.

El Chronicle Guide For F2P Beginners - Tier Lists, Tips, & Tricks 19

Upon rerolling, you can choose whether to keep the old option or switch to the new one.

El Chronicle Guide For F2P Beginners - Tier Lists, Tips, & Tricks 20

If you don’t like the new option, you can keep the old one and get 35 mileage instead. In this example, I was trying to get “Critical ATK Amount”. After 3 rerolls, you’ll accumulate 100 mileage and get a reroll for free.

El Chronicle Guide For F2P Beginners - Tier Lists, Tips, & Tricks 21

For gear with multiple options, note that you can reroll only one of them. After that, all the other options get locked permanently. So if you’ve got more than 1 non-ideal option on a piece of gear… you need to live with it or replace it.

El Chronicle Guide For F2P Beginners - Tier Lists, Tips, & Tricks 22

Gear Transcension. You can use duplicate gear to “transcend” your existing gear.

El Chronicle Guide For F2P Beginners - Tier Lists, Tips, & Tricks 23

A successful transcension means that the gear will provide additional stats.

El Chronicle Guide For F2P Beginners - Tier Lists, Tips, & Tricks 24

Note that the additional stat bonus doubles at each transcension level… but the success rate of transcension drops by half.

El Chronicle Guide For F2P Beginners - Tier Lists, Tips, & Tricks 25

If transcension fails, you get mileage instead (25 mileage when trying to transcend to +2, and 15 mileage when trying to transcend to +3).

Hitting 100 mileage means that you get a free transcension.

El Chronicle Guide For F2P Beginners - Tier Lists, Tips, & Tricks 28

Transcension is heavily RNG based, and you may need up to 12 duplicates (1 for +1, up to 4 for +2, and up to 7 for +3) to get your gear to +3. Unfortunately, your old T4/T5 EW does not count as a duplicate of your T6/T7 EW.

Gear Potential. Each stat on your gear has a potential rating from 30.0 (“D”) to 100.0 (“SS”). You can spend Crystals to raise this in small jumps of 1.0-3.5 at first, but decreasing later to 1.0-2.0, to reach above 75.0 (“A”). The success rate decreases as you progress from “D” to “A”. Failed attempts decrease your gear durability, which can be restored by spending more Crystals.

To raise stats above 75.0 (“A”), the gear must first be transcended to +3. The potential can then be further raised in large jumps of 10.0-15.0 until you reach 100.0 (“SS”). Each large jump requires 1 duplicate gear, but has a 100% success rate.

As a final note, raising gear potential uses a lot of Crystals and is highly RNG based. Here is an estimate of what you’ll need to raise each stat to 75.0 (“A”) and 100.0 (“SS”), excluding the duplicates for Transcension +3. The number of Crystals is a rough estimate based on average probabilities. RNG could increase or decrease the number significantly.

GradeStarting PotentialFor 75.0 PotentialFor 100.0 Potential
D<50.0900-1000 Crystals1000-1150 Crystals2-3 Duplicates
C50.0-59.9800-900 Crystals900-1050 Crystals2-3 Duplicates
B60.0-64.9700-800 Crystals800-950 Crystals2-3 Duplicates

A70.0-74.9400-500 Crystals500-650 Crystals2-3 Duplicates

Also, remember that each piece of gear comes with 1-5 stats. So an EW with 5 stats could need 5k Crystals and a ton of duplicates to reach maximum potential (“SS” +3), whereas a Rune with 1 stat would only need 1k Crystals.

Story Progression Milestones

Here are some story progression milestones. You can usually get by with 10%-15% less than the recommended Team CP given by CraveMob. Progression usually slows from Eldorn onwards due to high CP jumps between zones. This is normal and expected. Just keep working on your core 5-man team.

Building a Second Team?

For optimal PVE progression and PVP competitiveness, I strongly recommend to keep your focus on your core 5-man team. Remember that F-O-C-U-S = Follow One Course Until Successful.

Some players advocate building a second or even third 5-man team for Blitz. This has the added benefit of boosting your Alchemy. However, I can’t recommend it until your first 5-man team has completely maxed out all their gear (or unless you intend to change out your core 5-man team).

What I do instead is to split up my core 5-man team, filling in the gaps with other heroes who temporarily borrowed my main team’s upgraded gear. Matching the sub-classes and set armor types of my core team allowed them to share gear (except T6 EWs).

This allowed me to focus upgrades exclusively on my core 5-man team, allowing faster PVE progression, as well as continually building a stronger team for PVP. The gear swaps were a pain, but I run 3x Blitz at similar levels daily for maximum resource gain.

Season 3 Freebies

For a new player, the best thing you can do to gear up is simply to keep playing.

Notably, hitting Team Level 30 unlocks the following rewards (currently available for the first 50 days of Season 3… so approximately until 18 October 2019):

El Chronicle Guide For F2P Beginners - Tier Lists, Tips, & Tricks 31

You raise your Team EXP and thus Team Level by:

  • Completing all the Daily Achievements, i.e. Consume 150 Energy, Battle in the Colosseum 3 times, and Clear 3 Raids
  • Using Energy (so as far as possible, don’t let it max out)
El Chronicle Guide For F2P Beginners - Tier Lists, Tips, & Tricks 32

The Season 3 freebies include some Exclusive Weapon & Set Armor Selection Tickets. These are best used on your DPS heroes, unless you already have them from other sources. If unsure which T4 Set Armor to choose, use the in-game recommendations.

Your Daily Routine

You’ll develop a daily routine for various game activities. Here are the highlights.

Obtaining & Consuming Energy

You can get up to 688 Energy daily from regular sources, plus more from special login bonuses and Team Level Ups:

SourceDaily Energy
1 per 5 minutes288
Daily 08:00 Login240
Honor Shop160
Login BonusesVariable
Team Level UpVariable
Total688

As you complete more and more of the storyline, different game modes open up. Eventually, your daily routine to consume Energy should look something like this:

ActivityDaily Energy
3x Challenge Mission: Carriage Escort36
3x Challenge Mission: Hero Battle36
3x Challenge Mission: Base Defence36
3x Challenge Mission: Subjugation36
3x Challenge Blitz: Tyrant180
3x Challenge Blitz: Ill Omen36
(Optional) Auto-Battle furthest Story Chapter328+
Total688+

The 328+ Energy on Auto-Battle furthest Story Chapter only applies after you’re done with (or stuck somewhere on) the Main Quest, Side Quests and Hero Side Stories. Consuming all the extra Energy is your only way to farm Team EXP, and hence raise your Team Level.

Just make sure Lulu’s Support is active (Megaphone Support up to 6*, and Clapper Support thereafter), hit Auto Battle, plug in your phone, and leave it somewhere while you go do something else in real life.

Other Game Modes

The rest of your daily routine that doesn’t consume Energy should look something like this:

Activity
Collect Login Bonuses (incl. 08:00 & 18:00)
Collect Colosseum, Infinite Fortress & Guild War rewards
Collect 2x Ad Gold
Collect Alchemy rewards
Alchemy: Alchemize All
Summon Shop: Use Free Summon 1
Summon Shop: Use Summon 10+ (when enough Tickets/Crystals)
Honor Shop: Buy 5x Gold
Honor Shop: Buy 8x Energy
Honor Shop: Buy 8x Hero Pieces
Raid Shop: Buy 5x Hero Pieces
12x Raid: Raid Station
1x Raid: World Boss
3x Compete: Colosseum
1x Compete: Infinite Fortress (at least once a week)
8x Guild War: Battle

Obtaining & Consuming Honor

A lot of gear and upgrade resources are available from the Honor Shop. You get Honor daily from 3 sources (with more Honor for higher ranks):

  • Colosseum Rank (Experienced tier always gives more than any rank in Beginner tier)
  • Infinite Fortress Rank
  • Guild War Rank
El Chronicle Guide For F2P Beginners - Tier Lists, Tips, & Tricks 35
El Chronicle Guide For F2P Beginners - Tier Lists, Tips, & Tricks 36
El Chronicle Guide For F2P Beginners - Tier Lists, Tips, & Tricks 37

For optimal long-term progression, I recommend using Honor daily for:

  • 5x Gold (you’ll always need more Gold)
  • 8x Energy (which you convert into Gold via Auto-Battle)

If you have enough Honor leftover after that, use it for:

  • 8x Hero Pieces (it takes a ton of Hero Pieces to hit W3 and tier up gear)
  • 6x Extra Raids (for Hero Pieces, Upgrade Stones and Trait Tokens)

Afterwards, if you still have leftover Honor, consider saving it up for now. Honor is the best way to get Runes. With enough patience, it’s quite possible to build a full set of T5 Lv.50 SS +3 Runes for each hero in your 5-man team, even if you’re F2P. For now though, hitting W2/W3 and upgrading any T6 gear you have takes priority over Runes.

READ  BDO Valkyrie Guide - Everything You Need To Know

Other types of gear and upgrade resources can be obtained from the Honor Shop, but I don’t recommend it. They are generally easier to obtain from other sources, and it takes quite a bit of Honor to build a full set of Runes.

Obtaining & Consuming Champion Talismans

Aside from Summon Shop Gacha, the other main source of T6/T7 gear is the Champion Store. You get Champion Talismans daily from the same 3 sources as Honor (with more Champion Talismans for higher ranks), namely:

  • Colosseum Rank (Individual Top 12%)
  • Infinite Fortress Rank (Individual Top 12%)
  • Guild War Rank (Guild Top 10 or Top 25%)

At the Champion Store, there’s no difference in the T6 drop rates for x1 and x5 pulls. So just go ahead and use whatever you have. (That said, I personally find it a bit more satisfying when I save up for a x5 pull and see a piece of T6 gear.)

El Chronicle Guide For F2P Beginners - Tier Lists, Tips, & Tricks 38

Obtaining & Consuming Raid Coins

You get Raid Coins from doing up to 12 Raids daily:

  • 3x from Raid Station: Find Raid (Free)
  • 3x from Raid Station: Find Raid @ 800 Honor each
  • 3x from Square: Available Raids (Free)
  • 3x from Square: Available Raids @ 800 Honor each
El Chronicle Guide For F2P Beginners - Tier Lists, Tips, & Tricks 39
El Chronicle Guide For F2P Beginners - Tier Lists, Tips, & Tricks 40

If you’re short on Gold like everyone else in the game you don’t do much crafting, then you’ll probably have a surplus of Raid Coins.

Nonetheless, remember to use them daily for:

  • 5x Hero Pieces (it takes a ton of Hero Pieces to hit W3 and tier up gear)
  • Low Spirit Elements (as required for Alchemy)
  • Low Monster Cores (as required for Alchemy)
El Chronicle Guide For F2P Beginners - Tier Lists, Tips, & Tricks 41

As for all your extra Raid Coins… just be grateful it’s a currency that you don’t have to spend extra effort farming. That’s a good thing.

Eventually, Raid Coins are essential to build your ideal T4/T5 Normal Accessory. Again, with enough patience, it’s quite possible to build a full set of T5 Lv.50 SS +3 Normal Accessories for each hero in your 5-man team, even if you’re F2P. For now though, hitting W2/W3 and upgrading any T6 gear you have takes priority over this.

Hero Tier Lists (as at Patch 1.7.2)

Not everyone will agree with how heroes are ranked (and there are some concerns about even publishing tier lists in the first place). Nonetheless, they are a useful reference, especially for new players choosing their team. Just remember that heroes may be underrated simply because nobody has figured out how to bring out their full potential, and that team synergy is far more important than slapping together a bunch of highly-ranked heroes.

Special thanks to HiddenNeedle (히든니들) & EddyHooney (에디후니) for allowing me to reproduce these tier lists here. These were last updated at Patch 1.7.2.

Overview

Assuming that you have all the necessary Evolution materials, Awakening materials, Trait Materials, Upgrade Stones, etc., this is your approximate investment in Gold and Hero Pieces to max out a new hero.

I’ve omitted the cost of Gourmet Levels, Gear Options, Transcensions and Potential. These use a lot of Crystals, are much harder to quantify due to the RNG factor.

Hero Levels

Here’s what you need to level up heroes, including the equivalent in 750XP High EXP Potions (since these are most easily farmed).

Note that Hero Level is initially capped at Lv.60. W2 allows up to Lv.70, and W3 up to Lv.80. Extra levels after Lv.60 grant additional stats, but do not affect your Skill Level cap.

Tier Up Gear

T4 Lv.40 gear can be “tier up” to T5 Lv.1, whereas T6 Lv.50 gear can be “tier up” to T7 Lv.1.

El Chronicle Guide For F2P Beginners - Tier Lists, Tips, & Tricks 46

Note that “tier up” gear goes back to Lv.1. So it’s a downgrade until you can raise it to about 2/3 of max level, i.e. T5 Lv.33 is about equal to T4 Lv.40, whereas T7 Lv.46 is about equal to T6 Lv.50 gear. So make sure you have enough gold and upgrade stones after the tier up.

El Chronicle Guide For F2P Beginners - Tier Lists, Tips, & Tricks 47

I do not recommend doing this for T4 Weapons or Set Armor (unless you’ve maxed out other upgrades), as it’s expensive and the gear cannot be further upgraded to T6/T7. Instead, keep a reserve of Gold and Upgrade Stones in case you get a lucky gacha pull.

The cost of “tier up” is as follows:
