Nikon's Waiting Game

Nikon's Waiting Game

There have been rumors circulating for months about new Nikon product, but very little has actually seen the light of day. Last week saw the release of the D3100, Nikon's new entry level DSLR, as well as the announcement of four new lenses (85mm f/1.4G, 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G, 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G, 24-120mm f/4G) which, according to nikonrumors.com, should be shipping in a matter of days.

New Craft & Vision eBook - The Magic Of Black & White III

New Craft & Vision eBook - The Magic Of Black & White III

Check out the new Craft & Vision eBook that was released today. It's the third book in the black & white series by Andrew S. Gibson and it's simply titled The Magic of Black & White - Part III. I'm a big fan of the first two in the series and this one is another wonderful title. In part III, Andrew takes nine images and guides you through some more advanced techniques, not covered in the first two books. The book covers Toning, Split Toning, Exposure Blending, Textures, and the creation of Diptyches and Triptyches. If you enjoyed the first two books in this series, you will definitely want to pick this up. If you haven't yet added this series to your library, use the coupon code below and pick up the whole set. It's less than the money you were going to spend going to see Nanny McPhee Returns and it's infinitely more interesting. Codes after the jump.

Create A Paper Tear Effect

Create A Paper Tear Effect

Here's a quick video tutorial showing how to create a paper tear effect in Photoshop. It only takes a few minutes to do and as you can see, the effect is super cool. You could also use the same technique to simulate a deckled edge, as you would find on watercolor paper. Check out the video after the jump...

F&B One Year Anniversary

F&B One Year Anniversary

One year ago the three of us started something pretty amazing. After having such a  great time on Scott Kelby's Worldwide Photo Walk we decided we needed to do something like that on a regular basis. Getting out and walking around just shooting for fun is essential to break us out of our ruts. We realized we spend way too much time in front of the computer and not enough time behind our cameras. We wanted an outlet, not only for us, but anyone else who wanted to join in. Within days, Faded & Blurred was born...

Self-Portrait Challenge

Self-Portrait Challenge

Self-portraits... who among us hasn't done one? We use self-timers, remotes, mirrors, water and window reflections. Maybe we are trying to be creative. Maybe we are lacking in available models. Maybe we want an identity, to prove somehow, to ourselves or others, that we are the ones behind the camera. Whatever the reason, we all put ourselves in front of our own cameras eventually.
